E5 · The Frontline Leader

Form the people who form everyone else.

Do that and the frontline grows and delivers. Skip it, and no amount of soft-skills training will stand in for it.

The Unit

Two hundred and fifty-nine people. Forty-three of them lead.

Six to one, three tiers deep. One pyramid is a business unit of roughly 250 — the same whether it sits in an independent plant, one distribution centre inside a national chain, or a hospital floor. Business units of 250 or fewer are the target. A general manager with four thousand people has sixteen of them.

The Mandate

Two jobs, or it is extraction.

One · Forms others
Holds the ground

Mud, Water and Sun for everyone below: ground to fail on, a route that ascends, consequence dosed rather than dumped.

Two · Deploys intelligence
Moves what the floor knows

The intelligence is already there and already paid for. He moves it — to the company's earnings and growth, and to his people's time and health. Both, or it is extraction wearing a lanyard.

The Formation Lineage · Five Gardeners

Five objections. Already answered.

Each objection was eliminated by someone who did it — under war, plague, bombardment and open-market competition.

Five requirements. Five Gardeners. Each essential. Together, complete. Developed in full in Chapter 10 of Already Paid For.

What this becomes

Formation you can run without us.

Six sector handbooks, one a year from 2028, each written with a practitioner who proved it on their own floor — so a unit can form its own leaders without hiring anybody.
